Apple May Release iOS 5.1.2 To Fix SMS Spoofing – Few days ago the well known hacker Pod2g discovered the security flaw in the messaging app of iPhone. This security flaw basically permits anyone to set a different reply-to number and in short may lead different malwares.
Apple reply on Pod2g’s report here’s what the Apple representative said:
Apple takes security very seriously. When using iMessage instead of SMS, addresses are verified which protects against these kinds of spoofing attacks. One of the limitations of SMS is that it allows messages to be sent with spoofed addresses to any phone, so we urge customers to be extremely careful if they’re directed to an unknown website or address over SMS.
Now we can say that Apple has no solution to fix this SMS spoofing because this is the responsibility of the carrier. Moreover, SMS spoofing can affect any device, any carrier regardless of OS, Model and even the carrier.
So, Absinthejailbreak.com recommended readers to take care of the unknown numbers and unknown links and be careful during the messaging from standard text messaging app.
Also we can say that Apple is preparing now for a new iOS we think that it will be iOS 5.1.2 in order to patch this SMS spoofing before releasing iOS 6 as Pod2g confirmed that SMS spoofing is still there in iOS 6 beta 4.
