How To Fix iTunes Error 1604,1600, 1601, 1602 – while restoring, upgrading or downgrading iPhone 4S, 4, 3GS or iPad3,2,1 or iPod touch on iOS 4.x or iOS 5.x or iOS 6.x on Windows and Mac.
How To Fix iTunes Error 1604,1600, 1601, 1602
Method 1:
- Try changing USB ports.
- Try using a different dock connector to USB cable.
- Make sure that you are using the actual USB or the original.te
- Try connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable.
- Try update your iTunes to the latest one.
If the issue still appears try method 2
Method 2 :
1- Connect the device to iTunes, then put your device in Recovery Mode. using the steps below
- Connect your USB cable into your computer.
- Turn your iPhone off by holding the power button down until you see “slide to power off”.
- Now hold the Home button while reconnecting the USB cable to your iPhone. After iPhone is connected it should power on the device.
- Continue holding the Home button, you will see the Apple logo appear and then finally a “Connect to iTunes” will be displayed, now is the time to release the Home button.
2- Restore and wait for the error using the guide posted here
Method 3 :
For iPhone 3G, 2G and iPod Touch 1G, iPod Touch 2G users running OS 3.1.2 can use iREB to fix error 16xx or 29:
1- Download iREB and Start iTunes.
2- Put your iPhone into DFU mode.
- Hold down power button and home button both at the same time for 10 seconds
- After the 10 seconds release the power button and still pressing on the home button for another 10 seconds
3- Now close iTunes and Start iREB on your PC.
4- Select your device and wait for a few seconds till you get white or a red screen on your iPhone.
5- Open iTunes then press and hold left “alt” button on Mac or “Shift” button on Windows on the keyboard and then click on “Restore” button in the iTunes. Select a custom firmware .iPSW file and restore it. (note: this method doesn’t require a jailbroken devices)

if the above steps don’t solve your issue try to resolve it by disabling, deactivating, or uninstalling third-party security, antivirus, and firewall software on your computer.

Ok guys I think I have figured out an extremely easy way to downgrade to 5.1.1 on iphone 4 and 3gs without getting “No Service” msg on the top bar if you have experienced this, also no errors from itunes or going anywhere near itunes for a downgrade, i know heaps of people who have had this problem, feel free to post this on all sites where people are having issues downgrading through itunes or getting no service message
1. download latest red snow
2. download latest snow breeze
3.download 5.1.1 firmware
4.open snowbreeze and click on “Baseband preservation mode” so u dont jailbreak your phone, you just want to restore to original firmware for now, a msg will pop up press yes to proceed
5. continue to build custom firmware
6. once its done open redsnow, but make sure you know where your firmware was saved, it usually starts with snowbreeze……..etc mine was usually on the desktop
7. once youve opened redsnow go to extras
8.then click on “Even more” button, make sure your dont upgrade your baseband, preserve it or u’ll screw up ur phone!!!!
9. click on restore and follow the prompts
10. once u follow the prompts it will begin to restore your iphone to 5.1.1, once its finished you’ll be back to stock firmware, set it up as usual it will have “No Service” initially but once you get to the wifi section of set up click connect through itunes and continue set up or you can proceed with wifi if you want, your service will come up before youve completed setting up your phone
11. Congrats on downgrading your phone with no errors through itunes which is a pain in the ass and getting rid of that shitty ios 6 operating system
If you have any worries or questions let me know,…….btw do not upgrade your baseband through redsnow
Then you can jailbreak normally through absinthe…Enjoy:)

Redsnow gave me a msg saying that this method is only available for A5 devices.
So it doesn’t work on 3GS. : (

without shsh blobs saved u can only restore to 4.1 (that’s for 3gs)
can you restore without shsh blobs sith an ipod 4g

Use snowbreeze to create a custom ipsw(given that it matches your device)
stitch it with redsn0w in the shsh section
use dfu mode then open itunes and hold shift and use the custom stitched ipsw.
make sure to edit your host file to bypass itunes server authenicator
hope this helps its the only way my phone accepts a restore
I bought an iPhone 4 on iOS 6.0. Baseband 4.12.02, I think for a Gevy Sim. I want to restore it to stock firmware and BB so I can factory unlock it. How can I do that? I’ve tried downgrading to 5.1.1. I’ve tried creating firmware with sno0breeze and using redsn0w to downgrade…but nothing is working.
Any ideas out there??

i tried this solution, but it don’t work (on my iPhone)!!! after beginnig to restore with redsnOw, it says you are in DFU instead in Recovery.. i tried to do it in Recovery mode, but it won’t beginn without putting the dvice in DFU… it sounds weird, but i really don’t know what to do more…

i have already fix this problem when i upgrade from ios 4 to 5.1.1, just use tiny umbrella to request to cydia if have saved your SHSH blobs then if yes then you can restore your apple unit, save SHSH blobs to your computer then download the latest jailbreak tool of redsnow from that tool you can stitch the local blob to ipsw file of ios 5.1.1 to come up with custom ipsw. then download ireb-r5 to pawned state your unit and restore it with custome ipsw. thats it.

Every time apple releases a new iOS u have to open cydia and and let cydia just do the thing(save shsh blobs ) so you can restore your iPhone later,or use tinyumbrella to save the shsh blobs manually to PC, if u din’t save your blobs when it was the time you will never restore to your old iOS again. And for iPhone 4S users you cant restore or downgrade to any older iOS because you can’t put your phone in to pwned DFU only in DFU and that’s not enough. Anyway for iPhone 4 , 3gs users use snowbreeze to make a custom signed ipsw with your shsh blobs than run tinyumbrella(dont modify host file cause tinumbrella will do it for you) start tss server in tinyumbrella than open iREB(from snowbreeze) and enter pwned recovery ( this is to bypass errors 16XX) open iTunes click and hold SHIFT + Restore now search your custom made ipsw and let the magic begin. Hi i need your help. A week from now my iphone4 decided not to turn on/charge..I still cant work out why, base on all the infos i read online seems like my phone gone bricked? or recovery mode?. iTunes not even recognising my phone when i plugged it in. At first i was trying to find a way not to lose all data/pic etc on my phone, but im so hopeless on this and i cant seem to work it out. I never jailbreak my phone. i downloaded redsn0w/tinyumbrella, found iReb but unfortunately only for windows? Im using mac. Really desperate I use redsn0w and put my phone to DFU mode & itunes able to recognised it and giving me option to restore (i be happy just to restore it and dont care if i lose my data anymore) I got Error 1601 , then found this article on how to fix it. I followed every steps, but when about to restore says “device not eligible for requested build. Please help, I’m not that techy with these stuff too. really desperate now. Thank you.

What IOS you are on. Download that IOS i mean ipsw and go to the custom option on redsnow and customise it to NO BB IPSW. Once done go to redsnow again and extra then SHSH blob, then stitch and stitch the build you just made by customising your ipsw. once done run tinyumbrella and save shsh and then start tss server. once tss server is running put you iphone in DFU mode using redsnow or ireb. Now run itune and it will detect your phone in recovery mode. shift restoreand select the build you just stitched using redsnow it will be starting with 13 digit. I can guaratntee you, that this will do the trick. I had same problem and just followed my own guide and it did worked… Please let me know how you get on..
Hi guys, currently my ipad3 is running on IOS6. I was trying to downgrade it IOS5.1.1, i manage to put it on DFU mode. when i shift restore it, error message 1601 skips popping out. i tried all the methods online, like changing ports, cables, and even removing all the firewall and antivirus.

THe main problem with this error is that Itunes when looks for restore verification, it goes to “gs.apple.com”, which actually directs to cydia site….but after changing your host files and restart pc, your itunes will look for verification to some other site which says smthng about apple and stuff…
ALso dont FORGET TO PUR IPHONE ON PWNDDFU with iREB/Redsn0w etc..
Hi Maulik, don’t worry about changing host file just use tinyumbrella’s TSS server, run TSS server and then open itune and shift restore…
Ma8 whenever u r trying to shift restore it itune tries to restore ur baseband as well to the previous one which is not possible and it comes up with an error. If u stitch customised NO BB ipsw and use it for shift restore u will bypass that error… Good luck!!!

I have been looking for the solution of this error 16**, which usually occurs when i am restoring custom IPSW file on iphone.
After so much internet roaming, i found this solution best.
To help solve errors 16**, remove gs.apple.com lines from your hosts file:
Mac OS X:
On your Mac, go to your “Applications” folder.
Now navigate to the “Utilities” folder.
Launch “Terminal”.
Type “sudo nano /etc/hosts” (without quotes) and hit return.
Enter your password
Use the down arrow key to find the “gs.apple.com” entries. Once the cursor is in front, make sure you comment out the line(s) by entering “#” in front of the text.
Save the file by pressing CONTROL+O.
Exit the nano editor by pressing CONTROL+X.
If iTunes is open, close and re-open it so that it uses the changed hosts file.
Restore your device.
Windows:
Close iTunes
Start –> Programs –> Accessories
Run Notepad or WordPad (as administrator on windows 7)
Click “Open..” from File menu.
Browse to Windows/System32/drivers/etc
In “files of type:” select all documents
Open “hosts”
Either delete all line that has “gs.apple.com”, or add a “#” sign at the beginning of the line to comment it out
Hit Save
Reboot computer for changes to take effect.
Visit http://gs.apple.com/ to verify that the hosts file is pointing to Apple and not Cydia.
Restore your device.
I successfully restored my iphone 3gs wiht IOS 6.0.1 wiht baseband 05.13.02 …hope it helps

Im Havin a serious problem My iphone 4s GSM will not recover keep getting 3194 wen i try to update IOS to 4.1 and wen i try to regularly restore it i get error 1602 the phone was given to me so i dont have ANY shsh blobs and wen its not in recovery mode using the USB port (using a regular iphone charger) It Comes On as Emergency only in all different languages No IMEI# No Iccid# Cant even call 911 and once its on this way its only on for a few mins then blinks out and starts over again Can someone help me or please tell me whats wrong and how i can fix this its going on a month since its been happening

dont worry man just go to cydia search for shshhit download it and obtain 5.1.1 shsh file and mail on your account then to have to combined the 5.1.1 firmware with shsh 5.1.1 file with ifath then used that firmware ,,,,it will work try it
