How To Put Your iPhone Into DFU Mode – Before we learn you how to put your device in DFU mode, you have to know first what is the meaning of “DFU mode” its Device Firmware Upgrade mode which allows you to restore iOS even if something has gone wrong on the software level of the device.
Also DFU mode is used to get a the device ready for applying the jailbreak or to restore custom firmwares
How Do I Put my Device into DFU mode?
Step 1: Open iTunes and connect the iPhone to your PC or Mac, make sure that you are using the latest iTunes version on your computer
Step 2: You have to be patient in this step cause this is the most important step
- Hold the power button and home button for 15 seconds the both with each other.
- Then release the power button but keep holding the home button for another 15 seconds.
The screen below will appear if your steps are right
Step 3: If you’ve successfully entered DFU mode, the device screen will be black and iTunes will say it’s in recovery.

After jailbreak, I went back in redsn0w and hit just boot. It gave the status “The rest of process takes place on your device. Done!” but my iPod was totally black till I restarted it manually.
So this method not working for me.

How to enter DFU:
1. 3 seconds power button
2. without releasing power button hold the home button and power button for 10 seconds.
3 release power button and hold home button for 15 seconds
Get out of DFU mode:
1. Hold power and home button for 10 seconds then let go of both buttons
2. Hold power button for 2 seconds and let go
3. Your phone should now turn on

if I could buy you a beer I would, I was stuck in DFU, and I dont have windows/mac so couldnt use iTunes to get out,
you just hold power button for a few seconds to get out of DFU mode
then press it again to turn phone back on

Does the iphone have to be powered off when you start? Or powered on? I can’t seem to get this working. Seems pretty simple though.
Mine won’t have it;
Iphone 4, 6.0.1. When initial JB, it hangs part way through. Have tried to carry on from there as instructed – but hangs on Pineapple screen instead..!

it works-u guys need t olook at the build of your ios and the build of the ipsw–bottom line-u need to downgrade your 601 to the earlier 601 version-i ipsw with 4 and the iphone ios starts with 5 starts with 5-u need the 4….
look so i tried jailbreaking my iphone with 5.1.1 but it didn’t work so i had to restore to 6.0.1 along the way it gets held up when trying to enter dfu mode it says its not conected but does show it in itunes 11.0 any help would be appreciated thank you
