HackStore is Alternative To the Mac App Store

HackStore is Alternative To the Mac App Store - The HackStore was launched back in April, and although it looked good and was an alternative to the Mac App Store, it had some drawbacks. First of all, it had only 50 applications. Secondly, the third party apps that failed to get on board the Mac App store were the ones you could find there.

However, that has a changed a bit with the new version of the HackStore and it looks a lot better. The design is clean, it’s sharp and looks like the official Mac App store. You even have links to show you only the newest apps, featured apps or show them in a categorized manner. It still is a far way from being perfect, as you can see a number of grammatical errors and they seem to be simple typos. For example, writing ‘choise’ instead of ‘choice’. The interface also lacks certain finesse and that’s the only thing that makes it shady.

However, functionality is something that needs to be focused on as well and that being said, it works great. You can click an app you will be taken to the information page where you can simply click on the download link and download it.When it comes to updating applications, the HackStore is not behind and it takes on that task with ease as well. There is an updates icon on the top and it will show you if there are any updates available.

All the good things come to an end due to the fact that there are a limited number of apps on it. After downloading around 20 of the most useful apps, you find that there really aren’t any more apps you would want. There are a 100 or so apps and you have 20% of them.  This is not very good thing and we hope that number improves significantly. When you see other App stores like Bodega, you really appreciate them for their uniqueness and the fact that they have that certain finesse to them. Let’s see where the HackStore store is after another 6 months from now.

Developers can even upload their own apps on the HackStore by simply clicking on the HackStore menu and then selecting upload App/Update. What do you think about the HackStore? Feel free to comment.
