Pod2g two days ago mentioned that iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 3G would be out the compatibility of iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak cause of the kernel vulnerability also he said that the tethered jailbreak for these devices is available, for that reason we decided to show our readers how to jailbreak iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 3G running iOS 5.1 using redsnow
- Download iOS 5.1 firmware
- Download the latest version of RedSn0w
- Compatible with: iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 3g, iPod touch 4g, iPhone 4 CDMA & GSM, , iPad 1
Note: i think that iPhone4 and iPad 1 users should Waite until the release of iOS 5.1.1 untethered as Pod2g yesterday confirmed the compatibility of iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak
Jailbreak iOS 5.1 Tethered with Redsn0w
Step 1: Turn your device off [iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch]
Step 2: Connect your device to your computer using the USB power cable
Step 3: Launch Redsn0w by right clicking on “Run as Administrator”
Step 4: Once RedSn0w then click the Jailbreak button
Step 5: Now RedSn0w will guide you to put your device in to DFU mode. If you don’t know use the steps below:
- Hold down power button and home button both at the same time for 10 seconds
- After the 10 seconds release the power button and still pressing on the home button for another 10 seconds
Step 6: Your iPhone will now reboot.
Step 8: Your iPhone will reboot again and RedSn0w will begin uploading the new RAM Disk and Kernel.
Step 9: Once completed you be notified that RedSn0w is done. When your iPhone finishes rebooting it will be jailbroken with Cydia on the SpringBoard.
Step 10: Now you have to BOOT TETHERED Once you have jailbroken you will need to rerun redsn0w to boot tethered.
Step 11: From the main RedSn0w menu click the Extras button.
Step 12: Select Just boot from the Extras menu to just boot tethered.
For who don’t know that Tethered Jailbreak means if the battery dies or the device is rebooted for any reason, you will need to connect the device to a computer running Redsn0w and choose the same “Boot Tethered” option from the Extras menu. If you jailbreak and have the white Cydia icon this means you did not perform a tethered boot, launch redsn0w and do so to resolve that.
