Pod2g To Unlock iPhone 4S Baseband – Unlocking an iPhone has been one of the biggest problems for the Jailbreak and unlock community. Most of the iPhones around the globe are sold in carrier locked state. If we think a while back, Geohot was the first guy to jailbreak an iPhone 2G, after that a software was released to unlock iPhone 2G, 3G and 3Gs, Ultrasn0w and it still works perfectly with all of these handsets.
However, iPhone 4 having only preserved earlier basebands can be unlocked using it. The next big thing came was the introduction of Gevey Sim from Applenberry which was very successful and has unlocked tons of iPhone and iPad. But lastly, it was also banned and currently no unlock is available for iPhone 4S on iOS 5.0.1 or 5.1.1. except the SAM for the persons who have already saved them.
We have good news for all those people who are desperately waiting for unlock of iPhone 4S, Pod2g the main guy behind Absinthe Jailbreak tool has started working on the basebands of iPhone 4S to find an unlock.
Here’s what he tweeted just a while ago:
As some have found, I am playing with the baseband. Already found a non-exploitable DoS. I hope I can find more stuff.
However, the hacker is working on the other side of unlock, he is trying to hack the basebands from the network side instead of doing that from the iPhone. And the bad news about this thing is that even if the hacker will successfully hack the basebands, still the exploit will be run from the CPU side. Actually, Pod2g is looking for the price of $100,000 from the competition TippingPoint DVLabs Pwn2Own which is based on basebands exploit.
