How to Unlock iPhone 5, 4S, 4, 3GS, 3G baseband on iOS 4.x or iOS 5.0, 5.0.1, 5.1, 5.1.1 or the iOS 6.0, 6.0.1, 6.0.2, 6.1 and some notes before decided to Update to any iOS and the ability to preserve baseband before Update your iPhone.

What’s meaning By Baseband

How to Unlock iPhone 4S, 4, 3GS, 3G baseband ? Before we talk about baseband you have to know the definition of baseband: iPhone baseband is essentially the cellular modem firmware on your iPhone, upgrading baseband is to improve the functionality of the cellular modem and also to keep the device locked to the intended carrier.

This is why iPhone unlocks are updated to different baseband versions while updating their firmwares, since ‘hacking’ the baseband is necessary to allow the jailbreak and unlocked iPhone to utilize the cellular modem on the phone, there by allowing call, data, and SMS transfer to occur on the device.

How to know your baseband

In order to know your baseband version or Modem Firmware go to “Settings”  –> “General” –> “About”–> “Modem Firmware”

Unlock iPhone 4S, 4, 3GS, 3G baseband

Unlock iPhone 5, 4S, 4, 3GS, 3G baseband :

iPhone 5 Basebands

Note 1: You have to know that updating baseband 5.16.05, 5.16.02, 5.16.01, 5.16.00, 5.15.04 to 6.15.00 (iPad baseband ) will affect their devices by some risks check below the risks and then the choice is up to you:

  1. If you update your device to baseband 6.15.00, you will not be able to restore using the original firmware. That means you will face an iTunes error message if you try to restore it directly from there. You can only do it via a custom or ‘cooked’ firmware created with redsn0w or other tools.
  2. There is no software downgrade available once your baseband has been upgraded to 6.15.00. However.
  3. GPS will not work properly or in may not work seriously on your iPhone due to this baseband although a fix is said to be on the horizon.
  4. You will void any Apple warranties as they can easily detect this baseband if you bring it in for service.
  5. The resale value of your iPhone may be lesser due to the above, that’s if you intend to sell it at one point. Otherwise, this is not really an issue.
  6. At the end you will stuck -on the 6.15.00 baseband forever.

Note 4: locked iPhone 4 users should take care from baseband 4.12.01, 4.11.08 cause these basebands are unlockable with out solution so if you are running a lockable baseband so you have to preserve your baseband if you decided to update your firmware from here.

Note 5: Now you will be able to downgrade from the iPad baseband 6.15.00 to 5.13.04 that will fix the famous GPS issue and help you to unlock your device  devices using ultrasn0w.

      If you are using AT&T, you can follow their instructions on their website to factory unlock your iPhone 4. Go to AT&T’s website and search for “Unlock iPhone”. Go to the first “search result” (not the products from AT&T) and follow the instructions. It may take a long time (it took 8 days for AT&T to unlock my iPhone), but it worked for me on my iPhone 4 iOS 5.1.1 baseband 4.12.01.

      my brother is going to buy an iphone 4 4m U.S.A.
      as i m going to use it in india i want to know how can one tell from the imei number on the box(sealed pack iphone 4) that it does not have infamous baseband (4.11.08 or 4.12.01). as this baseband can not be locked.
      i wan to direct my bro to not to buy iphone 4 which has dis baseband.
      i wan a sealed pack iphone 4.
      so can u plz tell me how one can tell loking at box imei number or serial or model no or anything else..

        Look buying a new iphone 4 now will be automatically on version 5+ so it it’s 4.11.08 or 4.12.01 baseband which of course you cant unlock, so il you are buying sealed it better be factory unlocked (no carrier buy it from apple store at higher price count for some 600$) if its factory unlocked no matter whih baseband it runs, you can use it worldwide with any carrier, otherwise look for some 1.59.00 baseband (used iphone) so you can use it with ultrasn0w (best option).

      i’m living in japan with an iphone 4 ios5.1.1 baseband 4.12.01 but when i updated my iphone to ios6 latest software from apple my baseband was change to 4.12.02…then i tried to use my gevey pro sim which did not work on my former baseband before. ijust followed the gevey pro sim instruction for about 4 times luckily i have got a signal.Hope this will work for some 4.12.01 baseband users who really want their iphone to be unlock so they could use different sim wherever they go.Goodluck to everyone!!!!

      hi i unlocked my iphone 4s ios 5.1.1 baseband 4.12.01 using SAMPref, first you follow the instructions for SAMPref & the update your ios 5.1.1 to ios 6.0 that will change your baseband from 4.12.01 to 4.12.02 & you will have an iphone unlocked to all networks

        you can unlocked if your carrier (that this iphone is locked to) does support this factoryunlock option. (if you meant Telus canada, yes it’s supported) you have to be out of contract (finish the 2 years of contract or whatever) you pay them some 100$ (less or more im not sure it depends on the carrier) and you’re factory unlocked forever.

    Ok don’t listen to people that say they can do something when there high on tweek. I bought a iPhone 4s in early sep of last year. My friend said he could jail break it for me. Me not knowing anything about it said ok. 1st problem iPhone 4s 5.0.1 9b406 something close I can’t remember. Did not have a jail break out for the 4s. First time it was teathered. Got home reset it and it was stuck going off and on at the lock screen. Went back he did it again. I did really lookin into what I should and should not download. It was was to heavy for me at the time. So upgraded to 5.1.1. Said fuck it. Now it’s in like a weird state. I can trigger the spring board. By clearing all the apps on my dock. Then move one app to bottom right and springboard resets. Anothr. Is playing trigger AirPlay with Siri. ????? Apple didn’t know shit.

    any idea when or how the unlock 5.16.05 baseband will be available beside the risky solution that exists? one day? one month? dont need precise time targets just an idea of the dev team. ive done the jailbreak of a 3gs iphone and just need the unlock so that i can use another carrier on the iphone. thanks very much.

    I would appreciate your thoughts… I have a 3gs that I upgraded to 5.16.05 BEFORE I realized that my fone falls in the category of fones made after the date of chipset change. Now here is my question.. I am going to use gophone for a month then request AT&T to provide unlock code… after that I intend to use straightalk. Is it the unlocking or jailbreaking process that trashes the fone?…. as I would like to jb after it is unlocked.. Thanks..

    I am not an AT&T customer and when i tried to unlock they told me that it will not unlock unless i fax the receipt to them,i am stuck,because bought this phone from a friend who doesn’t have a receipt,i believe its not apply who has payed money to Gevey hackers,its the AT&T who has payed money to them,how one earth you were able to provide gevey for Iphone 4s and no solution for baseband 04.12.1? many of us bought iphone 4,with baseband 04.12.01,what is happening,can you help us please,

        of-course after unlocking 04.12.01 & upgrading to ios 6.0 your phone will be factory reset & it will be no longer jailbreak, you can jailbreak iPhone on ios 6.0 but i wont recommend that yet just wait a bit!

      use redsn0w 0.9.15b3 and make sure u save ur shsh. if i were you, i’d stay at 5.1.1 cos 6 is still buggy and unstable with some cydia tweaks. i just downgraded from 6.0.1 and i have my battery back now!

    What’s the best solution to upgrade to 5.1.1? Will it also update my baseband? What should I keep in mind so that I can continue using my gevey sim card?
