How to UnTethered Jailbreak 5.1.1 iPad 3, 2, 1 Absinthe 2.0 on Windows and MAC:
Preparation
UnTethered Jailbreak 5.1.1 iPad 3, 2, 1 Absinthe 2.0, Your iPad MUST already be on 5.1.1 to start, and like all jailbreak activities you should ensure you have backed up recently!
Be aware, as things stand you cannot install 5.1.1 on your iPad 3, 2, 1 IF Apple have closed the signing window on 5.1.1, even if you have saved SHSH Blobs. Make sure you get 5.1.1 installed before the window closes. For more details on SHSH Blobs.
Jailbreak Required :
- Download iOS 5.1.1 firmwar
- Download Absinthe v2.0.4 for Windows, Mac and Linux (update)
Finally, before you start, consider how much data you currently have on your iPad and the resources available on your PC. This jailbreak utilises a vulnerability in the Backup and Restore process. Therefore in order to complete the jailbreak Absinthe will perform a backup and restore of your iPad’s data. This raises a couple of important issues…
If you have any problems running Absinthe, see the troubleshooting section at the end. Now, on to the jailbreak…
1. Unzip the download and launch the Absinthe file on your PC:
2. Ensure your iPad is connected and detected, then press the “Jailbreak” button…
Absinthe will start to work it’s magic! Be advised, the jailbreak takes longer the more data you have on your iPad. Be Patient!

You need to keep the faith and let it do it’s thang!
Hang on it there baby…
The last stage takes roughly as long as the first, so bear with it. It will appear as though nothing much is happening…
Finally, it will finish and tell you to unlock your device and press the jailbreak icon. DONT disconnect your Device yet!
After the program informed you that jailbreak is ‘Almost done’.
And you should notice that the Cydia icon Appears.
That’s it! You are jailbroken untethered on 5.1.1 with an iPod! Wasn’t that easy?
Troubleshooting Absinthe 2.0!
If the server is down and you get an Error establishing a database connection message then tap the Settings icon on your springboard and turn on VPN.
You will get a configuration error; however, after about a minute your device will reboot with Cydia on the Springboard!
First of all be patient and trust that it is working, particularly on the last stage! If you have lots of data on your device it WILL take a long time at each stage. DO NOT disconnect the iPad from your PC until you see Cydia on your springboard (unless things have gone wrong of course).
If you get to the end and launching “Absinthe” does nothing, open Settings and turn ON the VPN setting which has been added to your device. Make sure you don’t disconnect the iPad2 yet! It should reboot and Cydia will then be visible.
If this does not work, disconnect and start again. Absinthe will let you know it needs to recover the process. Let it do this. Then disconnect again and run the jailbreak again! But if your iPad has lots of data on it, consider doing a clean restore as laid out in the preparation section this time!
If Absinthe crashes on OSX, first make sure you are running the jailbreak as an Administrator of the system. It seems as though folks have also had success by enabling the root user on OSX. To enable root, try the following:
- Open “System Preferences” and choose “Users & Groups”
- Click the padlock and authenticate to unlock the settings
- Choose “Login Options”
- Click “Join” (or “Edit”)
- Click “Open Directory Utility”
- Click the padlock and authenticate to unlock the settings (if required)
- From the “Edit” menu, choose “Enable Root User”
- Provide a password for the root user.
If Absinthe crashes on Windows, again, make sure you are running as an Administrator account.
Windows7 and Vista users should set the compatibility properties for the Absinthe executable by right clicking on the EXE file, choosing “properties”, switching to the Compatibility tab, and selecting “Windows XP (Service Pack 2)” and “Run this program as an administrator”.

You dont have an archive tool like Winzip, WinRAR or 7ZIP.
You need to extract it frist then run the unpacker then run the .exe.
I have updated my ipad2 to os 5.1.1 and then downloaded absinthe v 2.0.4- as it tries to jailbreak it manages to restart and during the final step where it says “waiting for the process to complete” … after a while it says “seems something has gone wrong, trying to recover” and then asks me to reconnect and try again. but i keep getting the same results… any ideas?

I had this same problem when I was doing it, and I figured out the problem. I was using windows 7 with admin privilages, ipad 2,4, absinthe 2.04, doing iCloud backup. I kept getting the “error, try again” thing. After upgrading to iOS 5.1.1 i had uninstalled iTunes because i no longer needed it for updates, and i preferred using iCloud to iTunes. However, there must be device drivers or something that were also uninstalled.
I installed iTunes in windows, did my backup using iTunes, and then ran absinthe as administrator. Everything worked! I hope this is able to help someone else solve their problem.
How did you manage to compress it to 5MB, from 121 MB? Huge load of text files in data?

It worked flawlessly in Ipad 1 with IOS 5.1.1 and Win 7 professional 64bit. Just follow the instructions carefully and everything will just flow smoothly.
Nope it doesn’t, we have 2 iPad 1′s and both fail, keep coming up with ‘ERROR: could not connect to lockdownd’

i have a jailbroken ipad1 with ios 5.1.1 on it….i installed installous 5 on it…and i downloaded a few apps in the installous…i was able to see them when they were being download but now they have dissapeared..not able to find them..please help !!
