How to UnTethered Jailbreak 5.1.1 iPhone 4S, 4, 3GS Absinthe 2.0 on Windows and MAC:
Preparation
UnTethered Jailbreak 5.1.1 iPhone 4S, 4, 3GS Absinthe 2.0, Your iPhone MUST already be on 5.1.1 to start, and like all jailbreak activities you should ensure you have backed up recently!
Be aware, as things stand you cannot install 5.1.1 on your iPhone 4S, 4, 3GS IF Apple have closed the signing window on 5.1.1, even if you have saved SHSH Blobs. Make sure you get 5.1.1 installed before the window closes. For more details on SHSH Blobs.
Jailbreak Required :
- Download iOS 5.1.1 firmware
- Download Absinthe v2.0.4 for Windows, Mac and linux (Update)
Finally, before you start, consider how much data you currently have on your iPhone and the resources available on your PC. This jailbreak utilises a vulnerability in the Backup and Restore process. Therefore in order to complete the jailbreak Absinthe will perform a backup and restore of your iPhone’s data. This raises a couple of important issues…
If you have any problems running Absinthe, see the troubleshooting section at the end. Now, on to the jailbreak…
1. Unzip the download and launch the Absinthe file on your PC:
2. Ensure your iPhone is connected and detected, then press the “Jailbreak” button…
Absinthe will start to work it’s magic! Be advised, the jailbreak takes longer the more data you have on your iPhone 4s, 4, 3gs. Be Patient!

You need to keep the faith and let it do it’s thang!
Hang on it there baby…
The last stage takes roughly as long as the first, so bear with it. It will appear as though nothing much is happening…
Finally, it will finish and tell you to unlock your device and press the jailbreak icon. DONT disconnect your Device yet!
After the program informed you that jailbreak is ‘Almost done’.
And you should notice that the Cydia icon installed .
That’s it! You are jailbroken untethered on 5.1.1 with an iPhone! Wasn’t that easy?
Troubleshooting Absinthe 2.0!
If the server is down and you get an Error establishing a database connection message then tap the Settings icon on your springboard and turn on VPN.
You will get a configuration error; however, after about a minute your device will reboot with Cydia on the Springboard!
First of all be patient and trust that it is working, particularly on the last stage! If you have lots of data on your device it WILL take a long time at each stage. DO NOT disconnect the iPhone from your PC until you see Cydia on your springboard (unless things have gone wrong of course).
If you get to the end and launching “Absinthe” does nothing, open Settings and turn ON the VPN setting which has been added to your device. Make sure you don’t disconnect the iPhone yet! It should reboot and Cydia will then be visible.
If this does not work, disconnect and start again. Absinthe will let you know it needs to recover the process. Let it do this. Then disconnect again and run the jailbreak again! But if your iPhone has lots of data on it, consider doing a clean restore as laid out in the preparation section this time!
If Absinthe crashes on OSX, first make sure you are running the jailbreak as an Administrator of the system. It seems as though folks have also had success by enabling the root user on OSX. To enable root, try the following:
- Open “System Preferences” and choose “Users & Groups”
- Click the padlock and authenticate to unlock the settings
- Choose “Login Options”
- Click “Join” (or “Edit”)
- Click “Open Directory Utility”
- Click the padlock and authenticate to unlock the settings (if required)
- From the “Edit” menu, choose “Enable Root User”
- Provide a password for the root user.
If Absinthe crashes on Windows, again, make sure you are running as an Administrator account.
Windows7 and Vista users should set the compatibility properties for the Absinthe executable by right clicking on the EXE file, choosing “properties”, switching to the Compatibility tab, and selecting “Windows XP (Service Pack 2)” and “Run this program as an administrator”.

Literally just got the iphone 4s so forgive me if im being a bit stupid here, but i’ve downloaded this and run the jailbreak and have cydia installed and it still asks me to verify payment on apps i’m trying to download that cost money, even if i enter the details it says my payment method is declined (as i don’t have money in my account) can someone offer a solution? i’m a bit stuck on what to do here..
You need to install Installous from cydia, and download apps from installous, don’t update the apps with app store. You don’t ever need tu use app store anymore.
Problem…I have successfully installed Absinthe & Cydia on my 3GS 5.1.1 baseband 05.16.05 However whilst the phone recognises and works with the 02 sim to which the phone is locked, when i insert my three mobile sim, it just says “No Service”. I have installed rocy racoon but still no joy. Any help please to unlock so i can use other sim provider.?
Jailbreaking DOESNT unlock your phone to other providers – it unlocks the phone to allow tweaking etc
after i installed it..i ran cydia and closed. the icons then went missing.

if you had any problem while Jailbreak your device; follow these steps :
1. backup your device data;
2. Erase All Content and Settings
3. Run Absinthe again (this time it should be work without any error)
4. Restore your device data

Just go settings in your ihpone. Then select general, scroll to the bottom you will see reset.
select reset and then select rest all data and settings.
This will put your iphone on factory setting and like a brand new phone. Please note that this will remove all your contacts, notes, calendars etc… everything.

I got my iPhone 4s to Jailbreak with the 2.0.4 software. I had no issues! Ok 4 things! Make sure you have the newest iTunes software, Run the program as an admin by right clicking on it when selected. And last, after you reset the phone completely, the absinthe program will ask you to activate it first (activate thru phone not iTunes) and don’t open iTunes just the Absinthe program and click Jailbreak! Wait………………

once the jailbreak is complete! DO NOT OPEN THE CYDIA APP!!! Open iTunes and do your restore from Backup like it states above! And once that is finished open the Cydia app and let it run… COMPLETE!
Ok if you phone gives you any problems and won’t load and it stays on the apple screen. You can Open iTunes and disconnect your iPhone. Power the phone completely off. Hold the Home button down then connect the iPhone to the computer… Don’t release the Home button until you see a screen stating for you to connect to iTunes… iTunes should tell you the phone is in recovery mode. Do a restore and it will fix your issues!

I cant open straight into apps I was notified about on my lockscreen, sliding just unlocks to home. also soundhound takes forever to open. any ideas hoe i can fix?

PLEASE HELP. Jailbreak didn’t work until I did a factory restore and re-actived the phone from scratch. After that, Absinthe worked very fast. Then I restored my iPhone, no problems. Everything was going great. Then I clicked on Cydia and my Phone Text and Safari apps disappeared. I can’t make calls. I can’t send texts. I cannot see Contacts. I cannot restore. This is FUBAR. I can receive calls and texts but cannot make them. WTF, please please help.

I jailbroke my iphone 4s on ios 5.1 using absinthe 2.0.4. I had it working fine until one day i was playing music and the iphone crashed. I turned the iphone off and turned it back on and then it would show the apple logo and then turn itself off repeatedly. I tried to restore to ios 5.1.1 and it failed with about 10 percent done. I’ve tried a bunch of different fixes such as redsnow, tinyumbrella, recboot, irecovery, iREB, blackra1n, recovery mode toolbox, etc. I don’t care how i get it to restore itself, i just want an iphone again.

You really need to learn to read. And don’t try to do stuff if you are a complete computer illiterate. Jailbreak with abisynthe does only JAILBREAK, meaning it allow you to install applications not signed by apple, which ofter offer functionalities forbidden in the app store (like emulators). If you have a carrier locked iphone, you need to do an UNLOCK in addition to jailbreak. That is accomplished by using Ultrasn0w or Redsn0w. Jeez.

Its a bunch of bollocks, jailbroke my phone with Absinthe 2.0 for my 3gs, magically made my legitiment apple apps disapear also including cydia as soon as i installed it and now I cant even Reset settings from phone or Itunes (baring in mind Itunes is at its latest) Someone fancy giving me some pointers?
